the one about…my goal for 2007

Yeah you read that right, it says 2007…My goal for this year has changed a couple of times but nevertheless has remained a relatively challenging goal…

My original goal was to run 1000 miles this year…

THEN it became to do a combination of running AND biking to equal 1000 miles this year…

THEN I went to the Academy and my running sort of jumped all over the place and I fell behind that goal…

SOOOOOOOOOOO…….My goal for the last several months has been to run 1000 kilometers this year, which equates to 621 miles…

I’m proud to say that as of today’s 10.5 mile run (in 25mph winds, holy crap that sucked), I’m at 550.5 for the year…Barring any serious injuries, I think I’ll be able to make my goal of 621 miles…

I’m risking injury by jumping my mileage up quite a bit (over the last month or so I’ve been around 20 miles a week, but just THIS week I did 37 miles)…The general rule of thumb for running is only 10% increases a week to ensure no injuries…

My legs are sore, but the whole “running 6 days a week” thing isn’t nearly as bad as I would have thought…It’s actually sped me up a bit, which seems to contradict how I thought it would be….I assumed that I would be exhausted from running back-to-back days but it’s having the opposite effect….With every mile I pound out, I get more and more pumped knowing that my goal is within my grasp for the year…

For 2008, I’ve got a couple as well, but still trying to figure out exactly how I’m going to word them…

  • I’d like to break a 6:00 mile sometime in 2008 (I’m currently around 6:25-6:30 for my mile time)
  • I’d like to do pushups/pullups/situps EVERYDAY in 2008 (trying to crunch some numbers to see how many I could actually pull off for 2008)
  • I’d like to either run a full marathon, or possibly a sprint triathlon or something (I’m doing the Rock N Roll Half-Marathon in Phoenix in January)
  • I want to stay active and reverse the “I don’t have time to work out” statement to something more along the lines of “I don’t have time to watch tv, I’ve got a *INSERT PHYSICAL ACTIVITY HERE* planned.”

    Hmm, looks like I’ve run around 505 kilometers this year. About 100 fewer than I ran in 2006, but I can live with it.

    Regarding your goals: do you mean pushups AND pullups AND situps every day? Or one of the three every day? I ask because you probably shouldn’t do all three every day…

    Thanks for commenting at my site. I am about to run out the door for my final 3.2 miles to make my 621 mile/1000 Km goal for the year.

    I have decided on a 1000 mile goal for 2008. Yikes! That is a bit of a jump over 1000 kilometers.

    My goals for 2007 changed quite a bit through the year. I actually did not have a “total for the year” goal set until late in the year. I just wanted to run more than last year, which I did. I am still working out all the details for 2008, but I have decided on the 1000 miles.

    I believe you’re doing a great job. Just be careful however. I think my goal for this year is to just get back to running. “Life got in the way!” that’s why I fell out of the “running” wagon. I just revently started doing the c25k this month.
